Monster was based off the true story of serial killer Aileen Wuornos. The movie keeps a lot of the facts from the real story, but there is one glaring mistake. The girlfriend character Selby Wall is completely fictional. She was made up when Wuornos’ real life girlfriend could not be featured in the movie for legal reasons.
