If wining and dining amidst luxurious views of the Italian Dolomites sounds like a dream vacation, you can now do exactly that. In 2015, Peter Pichler Architecture and Pavol Mikolajcak Architekt won a competition to design the stunning Obereggen Mountain Hut.
The Obereggen Mountain Hut is a modern take on the classic Stube, which is a type of structure common to the area. It offers visitors a cozy place to relax and to focus on the pleasure of viewing the surrounding environment. Large, panoramic windows and sunny terraces afford an incredible 360° view of the UNESCO World Nature Heritage Site.
To construct the hut, builders used materials sourced entirely from local wood. The structure and geometric interiors are made from spruce, while all of the furniture inside is oak. In addition to using trees as the chosen medium, the architects reference its essence in their design. The exterior mimics the gesture of a fallen tree with many “branches” that emerge from the slope. Let the alpine adventures begin!
